這屆 FIFA 世界盃 預計在 2026 年 6 月 正式開踢。開幕賽事 預計由 墨西哥與南非交手，於 6 月 12 日 於阿茲特克體育場舉行。同日稍晚，南韓與捷克交手。翌日，加拿大對波士尼亞，以及美國對巴拉圭等小組賽首輪賽事將登場。
分組名單顯示，A 組 由 墨西哥、南非、韓國及捷克；B 組 包含 加拿大、波士尼亞、卡達以及瑞士；C 組 則是 巴西、摩洛哥、海地及蘇格蘭構成。包括 巴西、法國、阿根廷、英格蘭、西班牙與德國等熱門球隊 已確認所屬小組。
淘汰賽 將於 7 月初 正式進行，16 強賽 將於 7 月 4 日 開踢，最終決賽將在 7 月 19 日 進行，最終將產生本屆世界盃冠軍。
從過往戰績來看，墨西哥和南非曾在 2010 年世界盃 碰面，最終以 1:1 平局收場，至今未分勝負。
